I'm Simon Ullrich.

Welcome to my Studio.

Takahe Studio is a small but mighty workshop located in the heart of Sydney’s Inner West. Each and Every item we put out is made by one set of hands with over 40 years of experience.

Throughout my 40 years, I have built everything from houses to boats and restored some of Sydney's most historic properties. This has formed my deep understanding of timber types, crafting methods and skill sets that I now use to put an un-matched level of detail into each aspect of this studio.

We are committed to only using timber sourced from trusted suppliers and contacts that we have established over the years. By doing so, we ensure that we consistently deliver high-quality products while maintaining our commitment to sustainability.

I take every opportunity to recycle and go to great lengths to find and repurpose timbers from deconstructed pre-loved furniture as well as other sources like renovation, which has saved countless rare and exotic timbers from ending up in landfills.

Our name is inspired by a bird that was once thought to be extinct in New Zealand, but with the help of hundreds of workers, it was given a new lease of life. We strive to embody this same determination in our work, which not only guarantees exceptional quality but also helps us reduce the environmental impact that is all too common in our industry. In light of the rapidly declining natural resources, our commitment to sustainability is more crucial than ever before.
